THE Department of State Services (DSS) says Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is currently, not in its custody.
Dr Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of DSS, said this on Saturday in Abuja while responding to reports that the service had arrested the suspended CBN governor.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspension of Emefiele was announced on Friday in a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The statement said the suspension followed an ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the economy’s financial sector.
It directed the suspended CBN governor to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate.
The statement said the Deputy Governor would act as the CBN Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
Emefiele assumed office as CBN governor in 2014 after succeeding Lamido Sanusi, who was also suspended from office by President Goodluck Jonathan few months before the expiration of his tenure. (NAN)
