THE Emir of Keffi, Nasarawa State, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa 111, has urged Nigerians to expose perpetrators of crimes to complement government’s efforts at ending insecurity in the country.
Yamusa made the call on Thursday in Keffi at a one-day seminar on criminal justice administration organised by the state judiciary in collaboration with the Keffi Emirate Council.
He said that,if Nigerians exposed evil doers, it would go a long way in ensuring permanent peace and unity in the country.
He also called on critical stakeholders in the criminal justice administration in the state to expose perpetrators of corrupt practices in the system as part of deliberate efforts to sanitise and enhance the system as well as to ensure quick administration of justice.
The Emir, said that the rising wave of criminal activities in Keffi was due to population explosion as a result of the town’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He urged his subjects to shun crime in the interest of peace.
“Peace is priceless, non-negotiable and necessary requirement for the development of any nation.
“It is the only positive instrument for the development of any society, hence the need for Nigerians to expose perpetrators of evil acts in order to complement government efforts at ending insecurity in the country,” he said.
Yamusa stressed the need for regular training of police personnel assigned to prosecute criminal cases in courts for quick dispensation of justice and national development.
He charged participants of the workshop to fashion out effective mechanism of fishing out criminal elements and develop a workable road map to foster stronger synergy among those involved in the administration of criminal justice in the country.
The emir enjoined his subjects and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
Declaring the workshop open, Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko, decried the shielding of perpetrators of crimes by some critical stakeholders in the society.
Dikko, represented by Justice Mustapha Ramat of State High Court, Akwanga, expressed delight at the curtailing of criminal activities in Keffi by the Emirate Council and called for its sustenance.
