Festus Keyamo, minister of state for Labour and Employment, has announced the death of Yohanna Shankuk, his personal driver as a result of #EndSARS protest in Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

Keyamo said the driver died on Wednesday as a result of the nationwide protest against police brutality.

Keyamo, through his verified Twitter handle @fkeyamo on Thursday, October 15, said: “I regret to announce that my driver, Mr. Yohanna Shankuk, died yesterday in Abuja as a result of the protests.

“A vehicle that saw advancing protesters at Berger roundabout made a U-turn, took the one-way back, and ran over him, as he was making his way on foot to my private office,” he said.

Realnews reports that Nigerian youths have been protesting SARS and police brutality, harassment, illegal arrest, and extortion across the country since Thursday, October 8.

The protest started as a social media protest on Saturday, October 3, when a video of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, brutalizing a young man in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, Delta State went viral.
