Enekwechi falls short in men’s shot put, as Chukwuma finishes last
Sports
TEAM Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi on Saturday in Paris finished sixth to fall outside the medals range in the ongoing Olympic Games in the men’s shot put event.
He heaved 21.42 metres in the 12-thrower field in the final of the event at the Stade de France, falling short of the 22.90 metres Ryan Crouser of the U.S threw.
Crouser’s throw was a season best for him and was enough for him to win the gold medal in the event.
But it was way behind his world record throw of 23.56 set in May 2023, or even the Olympic record of 23.30 set in Tokyo in August 2021.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Crouser’s compatriot, Joe Kovacs, picked the event’s silver medal with 22.15 just ahead of Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell who won the bronze.
Meanwhile, Rosemary Chukwuma finished last in the second heat of the women’s 100 metres semi-final to end all hopes of some measure of success in the event.
NAN reports that Chukwuma clocked 11.39 seconds.(NAN)
