A Zimbabwean entrepreneur, Dr Tempter Tungwarara, has unveiled Talk and Pay (TAP), a groundbreaking mobile application, to enhance connectivity across Africa.
Tungwarara who is also the Chairman, Prevail International, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said the innovation created in 2023, would address connectivity challenges faced by many in the region and change the landscape of communication and transactions across Africa.
He noted that TAP integrated Visa and MasterCard functionalities which had made it a vital tool for commerce and communication.
“By integrating Visa and MasterCard functionalities TAP will make financial services accessible to a wider audience, irrespective of their geographical boundaries,” he said.
According to him, the app, which is designed to enhance the way individuals interact and conduct financial transactions, allows users to send text messages, multimedia files and purchase airtime from their smartphones.
He added that it also allows users to pay utility bills, book flights and transfer funds to any bank around the world with their phones.
Tungwarara said that the platform was designed to solve the economic barriers that kept many communities disconnected in Africa.
He noted that the high costs of communication and the limitations on financial services often strained relationships among families and friends.
“TAP aims to dismantle these barriers by facilitating affordable, secure, efficient communication and transactions.
“TAP represents more than just a technological advancement; it’s about empowerment and TAP is democratising communication and financial transactions in Africa.
“We envision a future where everyone, regardless of their background has the opportunity to connect and manage their finances effectively,” he said.
Tungwarara said the arrival of TAP signalled a pivotal moment in Africa’s digital landscape, as the platform reaffirms the notion that technology can be a powerful equaliser, breaking down longstanding barriers and uniting communities.
He noted that one of the most striking features of TAP was its user-friendly interface, designed for individuals with varying levels of tech-savviness.
With focus on accessibility, Tungwarara said that TAP would ensure that even those unfamiliar with sophisticated apps would easily navigate the platform.
Tungwarara said that the app embodies a broader trend towards digital solutions that promote inclusivity and accessibility, as the innovation gains traction across the continent.
“Both urban and rural users benefit from the comprehensive services that TAP offers, enabling them to overcome the challenges posed by distance and limited access to traditional banking services.
“TAP is not just about offering services; it’s about fostering relationships and creating economic opportunities on multiple levels.
“Whether it’s a student reaching out to family or a small business making an international purchase, TAP connects hearts and minds, while opening doors to new opportunities.
“In a region teeming with youthful energy and entrepreneurial spirit, TAP empowers users to harness the full potential of their mobile devices, creating pathways for economic and social growth.
“With TAP, Africa is set to embrace a future marked by enhanced connectivity and transformative communication capabilities,” he said. (NAN)
