THE Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Ngozi Emehelu, on Monday, called on corps members in the state to shun involvement in local politics.

Emehelu made the call during the swearing-in of the 2021 Batch ‘B’, Stream 1 corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Enugu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chief judge, represented by Justice O. C. Ajah, administered the oath of allegiance to the 1,590 corps members.

She said that the call for the corps members not to be partisan in their respective areas of primary assignments was to ensure that did not get into trouble.

The chief judge urged them to be security conscious and contribute their quota toward the development of their host communities, especially through the scheme’s community development service.

She also appealed to the corps members to maximise their service year, as they strived to contribute to the unity of the country.

In his address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Sam Ujogu, said that the orientation programme was organised with strict safety measures.

Ujogu appealed to the corps members to adhere to the COVID-19 precautionary measures, as the virus was still active in the country.

“We should not let down our guards but take every precautionary step to avoid or minimise the spread.

“Adequate provisions have been made to test every participant. You are, therefore, admonished to submit yourself for COVID-19 test if you have not been tested,” Ujogu said.

Also speaking, Chairman, Awgu Local Government Area of the state, Mr Pedro Nwankwo, assured the corps members of their security throughout the duration of their service.

NAN reports that the 2021 Batch ‘B’, Stream ‘I’ Orientation Course, which started on July 27, will end on Aug. 16.
