Enugu CP says re-run elections peaceful, lauds security personnel for resilience

THE Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, says the re-run elections on Feb. 3, 2024, in Enugu State, was generally peaceful and violence-free.
It would be recalled that INEC conducted re-run elections as ordered by the Appeal Court in Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency and Enugu South Urban State Constituency of Enugu State on Feb. 3.
This is contained in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday in Enugu.
According to him, this is regardless of the eventual suspension of that of Enugu South Urban State Constituency due to the non-availability of INEC’s original results sheets for the voters’ inspection before the commencement of voting.
“The commissioner made this known after leading heads of security agencies to monitor/supervise the rerun elections in Enugu South Urban State Constituency, before it was eventually suspended, and that of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, which ran its full course.
“He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the police and other security personnel involved in the election security management.
“He, therefore, appreciated their resilience and diligence, which he said was responsible for the peaceful and successful conduct of the exercise,” he said.
Ndukwe said that the commissioner also appreciated citizens of the state, particularly the electorate and residents in the areas of the re-run elections, for largely conducting themselves responsibly. (NAN)
