THE Enugu State Government said it has restructured its Project monitoring and evaluation teams.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stated this in Enugu on Saturday during an interactive meeting with contractors handling Smart Schools and Type II Primary Health Care facilities in the State.
Onyia said that the objective of restructuring the teams was to ensure that all goals and objectives which the projects set to achieve at the inception are attained.
The SSG explained that it was also to ensure that all projects are completed with best standards and within the agreed time frame.
He disclosed that three sets of monitoring and evaluation teams had been established to carry out this exercise.
These, according to him, include a five-man team of technical staff of Local Government, listed by Head of Personnel Management, Enugu State Universal Basic Education board.
Others are the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Project Development Implementation, and that of the SSG involving the State Government, All Commissioners and Special Advisers on Revenue.
Onyia warned that any contractor found doing shoddy jobs or compromising qualities would be penalized.
He stressed that every stage of work must be reviewed and certified by Ministry staff that checks every milestone to meet the standard before moving to the next level.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Gerald Otiji, advised the contractors to take responsibility of their own projects and work to attain the desired dream of Gov. Peter Mbah.
Otiji said that the meeting was convened to ensure uniformity, clarity, quality of these Smart schools and Type II Primary Health Centres to stand the test of time .
He advised contractors to adhere strictly to the bill of engineering measurements stated in the drawing.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Health, Mr Ikechukwu Obi, said that Gov. Mbah embarked on the construction of Type II Primary Health Centres to reactivate healthcare centres and make them more functional.
He urged everyone to be part of the public health team to have these type II primary health care facilities in every ward in Enugu State.
The contractors, including Mr Chinedu Ani, Mr Ugochukwu Nnaji, and Mr Jude Olijioh, promised to ensure quality and timely delivery of the projects in a cost effective manner.
They attested their obligation to the State and people of ‘Ndi Enugu’ and not just as contractors for profit.
The highlight of the occasion was the lecture delivered by Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Anyaora Okereke, on Process Flow and Risk involved in handling of projects. (NAN)
