Enumeration area demarcation: NPC seeks community leaders’ support in Anambra

THE National Population Commission (NPC), on Monday, called on traditional rulers and community leaders in Anambra to support the ongoing Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise in the state.
The NPC Federal Commissioner in the state, Chief Chidi Ezeoke, made the call at a sensitisation programme in Nnewi Local Government Area of the state.
Ezeoke noted that traditional rulers and community leaders were custodians of the people’s customs and heritage as well as community influencers.
He said, “We are here to intimate you and seek your support for the exercise taking place in some local government areas of the state.
“The visit is to sensitise you on the importance of the exercise and the need to assist officers of the commission by providing them unfettered access and local guides to carry out their responsibilities professionally.
“We need you to assist us sensitise your people so that they will not hinder the exercise in any way,” the NPC chief said.
Also speaking, NPC Director in the state, Mr Joachim Ulasi, said that the exercise would cover the four communities of Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi, all in Nnewi council area.
“All the buildings will be demarcated and numbered, irrespective of their sizes, while locality identification, which we call towns and villages, will be authenticated by community leaders.
“We plead with the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government, Obi of Nnewi, President-Generals and other stakeholders to assist us by supporting the exercise and cooperating with our staffers, so that we can achieve the desired results, “he said.
Responding, Nnewi North Transition Chairman, Mr Chukwudi Orizu, thanked the commission, assuring it of maximum cooperation to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
