Delta Govt. partners Dutch company to establish Green House – Commissioner

THE Delta Commissioner for Science and Technology, Sir Bright Edejewhro, has said that the state government was partnering with Bosman International, a Dutch Company, to establish a Green House.

The commissioner stated this on Monday at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the State Ministry of Information in Asaba.

He said the project was aimed at providing the technical know-how for people in the state, who intend to embark on modern scientific methods of farming and to create additional revenue for government.

He said the ministry would establish a tissue culture laboratory, where improved variety of plant seedlings would be produced and distributed to farmers for increased yield and improved economy.

“Also the ministry plans to set up a chemical recycling technology plant that will degrade plastic wastes and yield granular feed stock as a source of raw material to several other allied industries in the state.

“We shall establish science and technology parks, one to be sited in each senatorial district of the state, to groom incubates in field of biotechnology, data bank, traditional medicine and other areas and for job creation,” he said.

Edejewhro said government would equip the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories at Ogbe-Ijoh Secondary School and Dom Domingos College in Warri, to be included in the 2019 budget.

He said the state government had in 1999 collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to establish Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) in Warri, to tutor and nurture interested “Deltans” in product development.

He said with the establishment of the centre, the state  has been able to ozonise water, mulch technology for weed control, establish floating fish harbour for rearing fish, palm fruit juice, extractive technology and medicinal plant preservation, among others, in three years.

“The state government has been participating in the National Science, Technology and Innovation Exhibitions in Abuja.

“The ministry periodically conducts training for residents of the state, on web development and imputed appreciation holiday boot camp for secondary school students on Microsoft word, Excel and Power point in the period under review,” Edejewhro said. (NAN)
