ENVIRONMENTAL experts have applauded Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State over the appointment of Yusuf Amoke as his Special Assistant on Climate Change.

The environmental experts, who spoke in separate interviews with newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna, said the appointment was timely and in line with global trends.

According to them, the historic appointment is a proactive step towards addressing climate change and environmental preservation in the state.

Mr Nurudden Bello, the Director of African Climate Reporters, expressed his gratitude Sani, saying that the appointment was well-deserved.

He said the appointment underscored the governor’s commitment to tackling environmental issues and global warming.

“The decision has positioned Kaduna State as a leader in proactively addressing climate change; the decision has positioned the state as a trailblazer in proactively addressing climate change.”

Bello said that the appointment was the first of its kind Northern Nigeria.

He highlighted Amoke’s specialisation in environmental protection and said he was eminently qualified for the role.

Bello said that Amoke had been involved in organising environmentalists, geologists and other experts in addressing waste pollution and marine life preservation.

“These initiatives align with the global effort to protect the environment and combat climate change,” he said.

On his part, Dr Abdullateef Taye, Registrar, African Institutes of Waste Management and Environmental Studies, commended the governor on Amoke’s appointment.

He pledged to support the newly appointed climate change aide while assuring that the institute would work tirelessly to assist in achieving the state’s climate-related goals.

The registrar called for collaboration between environmental activists, including NGOs, civil society organisations and the state government in making the state a model of sustainability (NAN)
