Africa
THE ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, ECREEE, is organizing the 9th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum, ESEF, 2024, scheduled to take place in the city of Abidjan, Côte d ́Ivoire, from November 28 to 29, 2024.
The Forum is a momentous gathering aimed at propelling the region toward a more sustainable energy landscape. ESEF 2024 serves as a platform to showcase the collective commitment of the member states to transition to cleaner, more accessible, and efficient energy systems.
This endeavor aligns with the global goals outlined in the Paris Agreement and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, particularly SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
Among the key objectives of the Forum, it seeks to:
Promote cooperation and partnerships to accelerate the development of a viable regional electricity market with the massive integration of renewable energy;
Hold ministerial dialogues on energy transition and water-energy-food nexus;
Engage in discussions to uptake and pave the way on energy efficiency initiatives.
The Forum promotes sustainable energy development by facilitating dialogue and collaboration among ECOWAS member states, encouraging the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices. Through fostering partnerships and exploring innovative solutions, the region can accelerate progress, tackle energy poverty, and ensure access to reliable and affordable energy for all citizens.
According to the statement by the ECOWAS Commission, ESEF 2024 will feature prominent speakers, including senior government officials, leaders of international organizations and industries, and experts in sustainable energy.
Their insights and perspectives will inspire discussions that lead to actionable strategies for sustainable energy development in the ECOWAS region.
The Forum is organized in parallel with the 1st edition of the International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Industries, SIREXE, taking place from November 27 to December 2, organized by the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of Côte d ́Ivoire.
While adding that registrations are open for participation at https://bit.ly/4dGwCZg, it called on stakeholders to join the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum and be part of the driving force that is shaping the future of sustainable energy in West Africa.
