GEORGE Lyn Okwudili, estate surveyor and land administrator, has commended Anambra Government for streamlining land administration in the state.
In an interaction with newsmen in Awka, Okwudili observed that innovations introduced by Gov. Willie Obiano administration have resulted in positive changes in the Ministry of Land and its operations.
He added that reduction of fees and accelerated process for obtaining certificates of occupancy had impacted positively on economy of the state.
Okwudili noted that businessmen, who need land title documents to obtain facilities from financial institutions, now conduct their business with ease.
On the ongoing revalidation of land titles in the state, Okwudili said that the exercise was long overdue.
He praised the present Commissioner for Lands, Nnamdi Onukwuba for his positive initiative, describing him as `a beacon of light’ in the Ministry.
The land administrator noted that the exercise would help the Ministry to expose illegalities, perpetrated by unscrupulous elements and land speculators in the past as well as detect encroachment in government layouts across the state.
He urged all allotees and occupants of various government layouts in the state to partake in the ongoing revalidation exercise as they stood to gain from the exercise.
Okwudili also enjoined prospective land buyers to always approach the Ministry of Lands to ascertain the status of any plot of land they wish to purchase since ignorance could not be regarded as an excuse.
On payment of compensation to indigenous communities, whose lands were acquired by government, Okwudili observed that Anambra Government scored a pass mark in payment of compensation.
“The state government had in addition to monetary compensation introduced a policy of releasing 20 per cent of compensatory plots, and the gestures provided such communities a sense of belonging,’’ he added.
