THE Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) says it would proffer solutions to the challenges hindering effective management and development of cities in the country.
Mr Rowland Abonta, President of NIESV, made this known at a news conference heralding the 49th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Institution in Lagos on Tuesday.
The theme of the conference is: “A City That Works”.
He said the conference would provide platform for deliberations on the major issues hindering development of most cities in Nigeria and proffer solutions to the challenges.
He was optimistic that it would give opportunities for the government and people to see what could be done to make the cities a better place to dwell.
According to him, the major focus of the conference is to boost the economic development of cities in the country, particularly Lagos, which was chosen to host the event.
“We chose Lagos for the conference because of its uniqueness. Lagos stands tall above other cities in the country.
“The vibrancy of Lagos as a city that works is a good example for others to follow and we are here to contribute to the development of Lagos city,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of NIESV also visited Oba Riliwanu Akiolu, Oba of Lagos, in his palace to register their presence in the state.
The Oba assured them of the support of his office in ensuring the success of the conference.
Mr Rogba Orimolade, Chairman, Lagos Chapter of NIESV, said the five-day event would focus on education, networking and improvement in the careers of members.
Orimolade said that the conference would be declared open on Thursday at Eko Hotel, Lagos by the Minister of Power, Works and housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
