Etsu Nupe lauds Buhari over new Edu Soko University
Education
ALHAJI Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe, on Monday commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the establishment of Edu Soko University, Bida, among other 19 new private universities in Nigeria.
Etsu Nupe, also Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, made the commendation in his palace in Bida.
He said the action of the president had indicated the importance that he attached to education at all levels.
“By so doing, the president has shown that he wants all and sundry in the country to be educated.
“This action further underscores the fact that the president is not paying lip service to education, but he is truly committed to ensuring that education thrives successfully.
“It is an indisputable fact globally that education is key to all forms of development of any nation or society.
“A society bereft of education is doomed and will perpetually stagnate, while its people will always lag behind,” he said.
According to the Etsu, well-educated people will move Nupe Emirate, Niger, and the nation forward.
Abubakar noted with delight that the new universities would enable the less privileged, indigent, and vulnerable students to acquire knowledge.
“This will reduce the stress of sending children to distant places for higher education and curb education tourism.
“All youths will now be encouraged to go to higher institutions to get their degrees with some ease.
“We want the parents to take advantage of this gesture by the president to ensure their wards get quality and affordable education,” he said.
The Etsu Nupe also stated that education was the best legacy parents could bequeath on their children to make them become leaders of tomorrow.
Abubakar urged wealthy Nupe indigenes in the country and in the diaspora to support the new university with funds for its immediate take-off.
” This is an opportunity that requires the support of all and sundry, all sons and daughters of Nupe kingdom must work in concert to achieve this feat,” he said.(NAN)
