EU plans to introduce cross-border carbon regulation, poses threat to Russia’s national interests, Alexander Abelin,  Aide to Russian Security Council chief, said on Thursday.

Abelin recalled that the international climate agenda,  had been recently increasingly used by Western countries to protect their goods in international markets.

“For example, the European Union plans,  provide for the introduction of cross-border carbon regulation in the near future as a mechanism for fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement.

“It poses a threat to national interests of the Russian Federation since the EU is one of its largest trading partners.

“US authorities are also considering the introduction of similar measures,’’ Abelin said. (Sputnik/NAN)
