THE European Union (EU) has expressed keen interest in partnering with Geometric Power to advance renewable energy solutions in Nigeria.

During a special visit to the Geometric Power plant in Aba on February 13, Bassimo Deluca,

EU’s head of Cooperation and Projects,  highlighted the potential for collaboration in sustainable power generation.

“We hope to see a catalytic partnership between our team and Geometric Power, especially in the area of renewable energy, which is of great importance to us,” Mr. Deluca stated.

Accompanying the EU delegation was Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, who commended Geometric Power for its efforts in delivering stable electricity to businesses and residents within its ring-fenced distribution area.

“I am happy to see the good work Geometric Power is doing, particularly in supporting businesses that require uninterrupted power supply to thrive,” Governor Otti remarked.

Also present during the visit, Ikechukwu Monday, Abia State commissioner for Power,  who applauded Aba Power for fulfilling its commitment to reliable electricity supply. He further hinted at possible government support in enhancing the metering infrastructure.

“We are looking forward to exploring how we can support Aba Power in metering, ensuring that more customers have access to prepaid meters,” the commissioner stated.

Welcoming the EU delegation, Ugochukwu Opiegbe, managing director of Aba Power, who represented Prof. Bart Nnaji, chairman of Geometric Power Group, expressed appreciation for the state government’s role in securing a reliable gas supply for the Aba Integrated Power Project (Aba IPP).

He also expressed Geometric Power’s keenness to explore cleaner energy solutions.

“We are keen on diversifying our energy mix to include cleaner sources such as solar, biofuels, and other renewable alternatives in the near future,” Opiegbe said.

Also, at the event, Aaron Uzodike, chairman of the Abia State House Committee on Power, praised the governor for his dedication to infrastructural development and acknowledged the EU’s interest in driving progress in Abia State.

The visit, which took place today, February 13, 2025, concluded with Ben Caven, managing director of Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL), leading the EU delegation and state officials on a tour of the power plant.

This strategic engagement marks another high-profile recognition of the Geometric Power project, which continues to be referenced as a model for private-sector-led power generation and distribution in Nigeria.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were

Alphonsus Udeigbo, president of Aba Landlords Association who is also the president of the Abia Amalgamated Traders Association; Kingsley Nwokocha, commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Abia State; Chijioke Chinedum, director general, Abia State Public-Private Partnership and Investment Board; and past and serving Mayors.

From the Geometric Power team, key executives present included Ike Alozie, chief financial officer; Blessing Ogbe, chief operations Officer, APLE; and Abdullahi Umeh, technical adviser to the chairman.

This visit reinforces Geometric Power’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s energy sector and highlights its potential as a key player in the country’s renewable energy transition.
