A former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Dr Samuel Nzekwe, has called on the new administration of Sen. Bola Tinubu, to reschedule the payment of loans obtained by Nigeria.

Nzekwe made the call while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota, Ogun.

He spoke against the backdrop of expectations of Nigerians after the swearing in of the president-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, on Monday in Abuja.

He said that over 80 per cent of Nigeria’s annual budget were used to service debts, thus leaving the principal unpaid.

“The revenue of the country has been swallowed by the debts,” he said.

The ex-ANAN president stressed the need for the new administration to redouble its efforts towards generating more revenues and keep paying the loans.

“They also need to block all leakages and reduce the cost of governance which is too high,” he said.

Nzekwe emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in all the financial transactions involving the government.

The ex-ANAN president urged President Tinubu to further tackle security challenges so that train transportation system could function well across the country.

He added that this would also help to attract new foreign investors into the country. (NAN)
