A former governor of Kogi, Mr Idris Wada on Saturday, lauded the notable achievements and sterling stewardship of his successor, Gov. Yahaya Bello.
In a statement in Lokoja, Bello’s Media Aide, Onogwu Muhammed said Wada made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the state governor in his Abuja residence on Saturday.
“Your tenure is coming to an end and I have to come and show my appreciation to you for your notable achievements in Kogi, especially in the areas of security, healthcare, education and infrastructure.
“My visit is specifically aimed at commending you for your sterling stewardship since you assumed office in 2016 and to convey my best wishes to you in your future endeavours, ” Wada said.
Wada was said to have pledged his full support for the incoming administration of Governor-elect , Usman Ododo.
The incumbent and his predecessor reportedly discussed state affairs, challenges of governance at various levels, particularly within Kogi, and broader security issues.
Bello, in his response, described Wada as an exemplary leader and a statesman of progressive qualities.
The governor acknowledged the challenges Wada faced during his tenure and commended the diligent efforts made within the constraints of available resources, particularly given the unique political challenges of Kogi .
“Sir, I feel deeply honoured to host you in my house, and I want to express my gratitude for all you have done, both within and outside your time in office as governor.
“Those of us following your footsteps are proud of your statesmanship and exemplary leadership. Your humility, fear of God and progressive qualities are virtues everyone speaks of.
“I pray that God continues to guide and protect you with good health.
“As you are aware, I will be handing over to the Ododo, and the transition event is scheduled for next Saturday.
“Ododo will no doubt need our support to succeed for the overall interest of the state, ” Bello said.
He, however, thanked Wada for the visit and wished him well. (NAN)
