Ex-MAN chairman urges FG to quickly tackle inflation

WALE Adegbite, a former Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun Chapter, has urged the Federal Government to take steps towards addressing the inflationary trend in the country.
Adegbite who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun, said that the cost of goods and services in the country had become worrisome.
Adegbite was reacting to the recent figure released by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which showed that the inflation rate had increased from 33.95 per cent in May to 34.19 per cent in June.
The ex-MAN chairman listed insecurity, bad state of roads, high cost of transportation and extortion by security personnel as some of the challenges also being faced by the citizenry.
“So the Federal Government should take steps to remove all the bottlenecks against its efforts to tackle inflation.
“The costs of basic food stuff and services have risen by more than 40 per cent. We can’t continue to watch.
“This is extremely high. Also, the salaries of majority of Nigerian workers have not risen to 40 per cent.
“The Federal Government should address these issues urgently. It should muster the political will to solve these problems in the interest of the wellbeing of the citizenry,” he said.(NAN)
