Ex-NSCDC official urges security agencies to beam searchlight on Ogun’s remote communities

A security expert , Paul Ayeni, on Saturday advised security agencies in Ogun to increase operations in the state’s remote communities to check the rate of crime in such areas.
Ayeni, a former Commandant of the Lagos State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta.
He expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping, defilements, robberies and other crimes as recently reported from the remote communities.
”I urge security agencies not to concentrate their operations only in the major cities. There is the need for deployment of competent officers to the remote areas for sustainable peace in the state,” Ayeni said.
He noted that crime had continued to thrive in the remote communities due to neglect and inadequate security operations in such areas.
Ayeni therefore called for the deployment of additional and competent security officials in the communities.
The retired NSCDC Commandant commended the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for the recent donation of 25 patrol vans to the Ogun Police Command.
He, however, advised that the vans should be deployed in a manner that would strengthen security operations in the remote communities.
Ayeni also stressed the need for effective collaboration with security agencies of neighbouring states to prevent the infiltration of criminals from such states.
“Such measure will enhance intelligence-gathering and the quick response necessary for foiling criminal activities and arrest of hoodlums,” he said.(NAN)
