EX-SUPER Falcons’ Star, Perpetua Nkwocha, has donated pairs of boots, hand gloves and training jerseys to Pelican Stars Female Football Club of Calabar.

Nkwocha, a former striker of Pelican Stars who is now the Coach of Clemensas Swedish Women’s Football, sent the items through her former team mate who is now the Coach of Pelican Stars, Efioanwang Ekpo-Bassey.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the U.J Esuene Sport Stadium on Wednesday in Calabar, Ekpo-Bassey said they both played at Pelican Stars with Perpetua between 1998 and 1999 before moving to Super Falcons.

NAN reports that the Club also unveiled 15 more players that were recently signed into the team to enhance their performance.

She told NAN that the items would go a long way to enhance the performance of the players.

“I am glad to inform the players and management of the Club that we have received pairs of boots, hand gloves and jerseys that were sent to us by my former team mate in Pelican Stars, Perpetua Nkwocha.

“My girls are so excited; we pray God to bless Nkwocha and prosper her more,” she said.

Also, the State Commissioner for Sport and Cinematography, Mr Offu Aya, said that the donation was commendable, thereby calling on other former players of Pelican Stars to emulate the kind gesture of Perpetua.

Aya said that Perpetua had strengthened the face of the Club through the donation of the sport items.

“When we bring players up and they find greener pastures outside, we encourage them to also remember the club in their little way.

“This kind donation will reduce the pressure on government and create room for a sustainable partnership that will boast the performance of the girls.

“On behalf of the Ministry and the Cross River Government, I want to specially thank Nkwocha for her good thought towards Pelican Stars.

“With this, I hope that others will emulate her and remember the Club too. The donation is coming at the right time because we are preparing for the AITEO tournament,” he said.

Chairman of Pelican Club, Mr Sam Kombor, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Patrick Ifere, said that Perpetua had set a remarkable legacy that is worthy of emulation.

“As a Club, we want to send our sincere gratitude to Nkwocha, May God bless and provide more for her. We also want to use this as a point of contact to call on other ex-players of Pelican Stars to also remember the Club,” he said.

In her remarks, the Captain of Pelican Stars, Hodo Williams, said the Club was overwhelmed by Perpetua’s kind donation.

She gave the assurance that the team would give in its best in winning more trophies.(NAN)
