Stella Ajige, a fashion designer, has tasked fashion designers to promote the country’s cultural heritage, using fashion.
Ajige, who is the director J_ell’s Fashion Studio, Lafia, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lafia.
According to her, fashion has the capacity to promote our cultural heritage, if properly packaged.
She said it could also be a foreign exchange earner for those in the industry.
She, therefore, called on her colleagues in the industry to always try to promote the country’s cultural heritage in their designs.
Ajige recounted how her fashion outfit participated in a fashion exhibition in the U.S, adding that
the idea of exporting the ready to wear clothing was to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
“In the last two years we have participated in fashion exhibition in Texas, U.S, with our ready to wear line, people were intrigued by our collection, they were made in Nigeria, Lafia to be precise, I am proud because these clothes are made in Nigeria.
“We have had remarkable patronage from around the World, they place orders online and get exactly what they want. The idea of exporting our ready to wear line is to promote our heritage,” she said.
Ajige explained that her fashion outfit was involved in the training of young and old people, to enable them to also become employers of labour.(NAN)
