TAYO Adeyemo, a sports administrator, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.
Adeyemo said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
He also urged the NFF to focus on featuring home-based players to win the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Nigeria.
According to him, the extension of Paseiro’s contract will help the Super Eagles to prepare early for the next tournament.
He said the next AFCON, which would be hosted by Morocco, needed friendly matches to keep the players in form.
“Morocco will host the 35th edition of the Total Energies CAF or The Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. The NFF should extend the contract of the coach,” he said.
He urged the Super Eagles and NFF to focus on the next AFCON and the qualifiers if the team must surpass their previous AFCON records.
He said the team needed more dedicated, skillful and determined players to win the trophy in their next attempt.
He said: “They should prepare more on training and playing quality friendly matches frequently with the home-based players if the international players are not ready.”
Adeyemo said the Super Eagles did well clinching the second position at the 2023 AFCON hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
“Before the tournament a lot of Nigerians did not expect the team to get to the finals or even qualify from the group stage.
“For the team to get to the finals, that means the coach performed excellently, and he should be retained,” he said. (NAN)
