Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education, has urged President Bola Tinubu and Kayode Egbetokun, inspector general of police, IGP, to release Dele Farotimi, who was kidnapped from him office in Lagos by policemen from Ekiti State.

Ezekwesili made this known in a post on X on Wednesday, December 4, stating: “So now that more facts are publicly available, @DeleFarotimi was actually abducted from his office in Lagos by officers of the Ekiti Command of the @PoliceNG on allegation that he defamed his fellow citizen?

“@PoliceNG ‘s abduction of #ActiveCitizen @DeleFarotimi is definitely not one of the recognized judicial processes on Defamation under the country’s constitution and laws.

“The IG of Police must now immediately release Mr Farotimi and account to the Nigerian public on who gave him the power to extend the mandate of the country’s law enforcement institution to include breaking the law and violating the constitution on behalf of aggrieved powerful private citizens.

“If Mr Farotimi is not released this morning, then @officialABAT -who holds the title of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces- must ask the IG who is his Direct Report to immediately do so and stop this egregious abuse of a public institution like the Nigerian Police.

“Following this, the aggrieved parties and Mr Farotimi can be supported by the Police to commence their civil litigation processes.”

“For now, stop the illegality and #ReleaseDeleFarotimiNow”, Ezekwesili tweeted on X.
