FIVE persons suspected to have been involved in the September 21 kidnap of Olu Falae, former secretary to the government of the federation, were arraigned before a high court of Ondo State, on Thursday, October 15.

The suspects, who were docked for kidnapping, conspiracy and armed robbery 24 days after abduction were Abubakar Auta, Bello Jannu, Umaru Ibrahim, Masahudu Muhammed and Idris Lawal. They all appeared before Justice Williams Rotimi Olamide of the Ondo State high court sitting in Akure, on a five-count charge of procuring or counselling another for the purpose of kidnapping, aiding and abetting to commit kidnapping and abduction, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and committing armed robbery.

The act, according to Adeyemi Tuki, state attorney, contravened section 5(1)(a) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Abduction Law.

Tuki alleged that the suspects and others now at large committed the offence on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Kajola, Eyinale Community in Akure, Ondo State.

After reading the charges to them, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The court employed services of Bassey Victor, an interpreter, because the accused said they could not understand or speak in English.

Three of the alleged kidnappers admitted that their share from the N5million ransom collected from the family of Falae was N100,000 each.

Justice Olamide ruled that they be remanded in prison custody until ‎ November 10 for mention.
