FAMILY, relations, and friends of late Michael Okechukwu Ogbonna were united in grief on Saturday, September 5, as his remains were buried in his hometown of Itu-Isielu, Olokoro in Umuahia, Abia State.

The burial ceremony started with lying in state of the remain of Ogbonna in his compound where mournful looking relatives and friends paid their last respect to him.

There was a funeral service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church which was officiated by Venerable Benjamin A. Mbakwe and Reverend Chima Freeborn.

Mbakwe extolled the virtues of late Ogbonna, admonishing the mourners to emulate him and leave a good legacy by which they will be remembered when they are dead.

Chibuzo Ogbonna, younger brother of the deceased read his oration, which was emotional, while he stated that his dead brother was like a father to him. He stressed that he left a lot of legacies through which he will be remembered.

In his tribute, Victor Ogbonna, son of the deceased said: “It really breaks my heart and I do not know why it happened this early when I still have a lot to learn from you. But God knows best. All the sacrifices you have made for us and the people around you will never be forgotten. I will do everything possible to take care of my mum and my siblings. And to do you proud. You might be gone but never to be forgotten in our hearts. I love you Dad.”

On her part, Uloma Ogbonna, widow of late Micheal, said: “You were such a wonderful friend and husband. A perfect gentleman, extremely observant and thoughtful, compassionate, and kind, with more love and affection than I could ever wish for. A man of few words whose actions speak louder than voice. You gave me wonderful memories my heart will cherish forever. What an understanding, dependable, and supportive husband and father you were.

“You positively touched the lives of people you encountered in this short period of your life and you will be sorely missed. Since it has pleased the Lord to call you home, we cannot question the all-knowing God. The vacuum and void created by your exit will only be filled when we meet to part no more in heaven.”

You were gone before I knew it and only God knows why. A million times I have cried. If love alone could save you, you never would have died. In life, I loved you dearly. In death, I love you still. In my heart, you hold a place where no one could ever fill.”

Realnews reports that late Ogbonna died on March 26, at the age of 54 after a brief illness.
