FAMILY of the late Alex Ekwueme, an elder statesman and former Nigerian vice-president, paid ‘a thank you visit’ to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra.

The family was at the lodge to express their deep appreciation for the befitting and grand burial to the late sage by the government of Anambra State.

The delegation was led by his younger brother Laz Ekwueme, the leader and the Igwe of Oko.

While thanking Obiano, Igwe Ekwueme recounted how the governor assisted the family and the entire people of Oko to accord one of their most revered sons, a befitting burial.

The Igwe also thanked the governor for the intervention of his government in curbing the menace of erosion in Oko community.

He also expressed his gratitude for the construction of roads and provision of street lights in their community.

Igwe Ekwueme called on the governor to intervene in the activities of sand excavators who cause and increase the risk of erosion in the community.

He urged the Governor to do more for the community and pledged their support to his administration.

Responding, Obiano thanked the entourage for visiting the lodge.

He assured them of his commitment toward solving the problems of erosion in the state.

The governor affirmed his dedication to enhancing development in all communities in Anambra by constructing new roads and maintaining existing ones.

Obiano observed that Anambra State had the largest network of roads in the country and confirmed his readiness to improve on the existing infrastructure in the state.

Recalling his relationship with the late sage, Obiano admonished the family to ensure that most of the leader’s legacies were kept.

According to the governor, the Ekwueme family must honour the memory of their patriarch by maintaining the peace of the family.

“His death must be a unifying factor and never a reason for disunity.’’

The governor described the late Sage as a father, a leader, a mentor and a friend. The family presented a painting of the governor to Obiano.
