Farmer in court for allegedly receiving stolen property

A 38-year-old farmer, Sa’abi Galadima, has been docked at an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen property.
The police charged Galadima who resides in Paiko Kore in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja with receiving stolen property.
The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the defendant was arrested by the police based on credible intelligence.
Tanko alleged that the defendant do receive stolen property from hoodlums, adding that during police investigation two head of cattle was recovered in his possession and he could not give satisfactory account of them.
He said that the offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Defense Counsel, Okoli Chidi, in an oral bail application prayed the court to admit his client to bail, pursuant to Section 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Chidi said that the defendant would not jump bail and would not jeopardise any form of investigation if granted bail.
The Judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to a N600,000 bail with one reasonable and reliable surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He said that the surety must provide two recent passport photograph and useful valid means of identification.
Umar said the address of the surety must be verified by the court staff and in default, the defendant should be remanded at Nigerian Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 28 for hearing. (NAN)
