Farmhand bolts with N20, 000 plantain, gets N100, 000 bail

AN unemployed man, Samuel Fashenmi, who allegedly stole 23 bunches of plantain worth N20,000, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.

The accused committed the offence on June 17 at a farm on Idale Road in Badagry belonging to the complainant, Mr Timi Adewole.

According to Police Prosecutor Akpan Ikem, the accused was hired by the owner of the farm to assist in harvesting the plantains but stole some and sold them.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.

Further hearing has been fixed for July 26.
