Judiciary
NINE Years after the scandal broke, a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in Apo, Abuja, has convicted Farouk Lawan, former member of House of Representatives from Kano State, for receiving $500,000 bribe from Femi Otedola, a businessman.
Lawan was sentenced by Justice Angella Otaluka on the three-count charge on which he was tried by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.
The judge sentenced him to seven years imprisonment in respect of counts one and two and five years on count three.
Realnews recalls that Lawan committed the offence when he was the chairman of the Presidential Committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to investigate the oil subsidy scam.
Lawan was caught in video collecting $500,000 of the $3million to drop Otedola’s company from the investigation.
