THE League Management Company, LMC, has descended heavily on FC Ifeanyi Ubah for its unprofessional act on the opening day of action in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.
The team known as Anambra warriors on Saturday, January 15, staged a walk out few minutes into the second half of the game away to Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The act has been greeted with diverse sanctions on the team; including cumulative fines amounting to about N10 million.
The LMC in a statement announced that the club had been charged for breaching the framework and rule of the NPFL following the refusal of the team to continue with the game against Kano Pillars, prompting the game to be called off.
The Anambra warriors are also charged with hindering and infringing on the fulfilment of the Broadcast Contract of the NPFL in the course of refusing to continue the game against Kano Pillars on Saturday, January 15.
The club owned by Ifeanyi Ubah, an oil magnate and billionaire businessman, was also charged for conducting itself in a behaviour capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute and acting in a manner capable of causing serious security breach.
The LMC stated that for refusing to continue the NPFL game against the Kano Pillars on Saturday, January 15, the FC Ifeanyi Ubah should pay a fine of N3 million.
Furthermore, it stated that the club would forfeit three points, three goals from the NPFL game which should be credited to Kano Pillars, its opponent.
The LMC statement added: “FC Ifeanyi Ubah will further forfeit 3 points from accrued points which will be suspended for a probationary period of the remainder of the NPFL season.
“FC Ifeanyi Ubah will pay a fine of N5 million for hindering & infringing the live TV Broadcast of the #NPFL game vs Kano Pillars.
“Also FC Ifeanyiubah will have 2 points deducted from accrued points, which is suspended for a probationary period of the remainder of the #NPFL season owing to hindering & infringing on fulfilment of the Broadcast Contract.”
The LMC also stated that for conduct capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute, the FC Ifeanyi Ubah should to pay a fine of N1 million
It added that three points would also be deducted from points accruing to the club for behaviour capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute. This shall be suspended for a probationary period of the remainder of the season, the LMC said.
The long list of punishment for FC Ifeanyi Ubah indicates that the club would also to pay a fine of N150,000 for causing a delay to the restart of the match after half time without good reason.
The FC Ifeanyi Ubah was given 48 hours, not later than January 18, to submit to the sanctions imposed or elect to appeal.
Also sanctioned by the LMC were erring officials of the club. Igwe Jonathan, a senior official of the FC Ifeanyi Ubah was charged for misconduct during the Saturday match.
The LMC alleged that Johnson conducted himself in a manner capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute.
According to the LMC, Johnson persistently challenged the referee’s decisions, communicated on the phone improperly within the technical area and ordered the FC Ifeanyi Ubah players to leave the pitch and discontinue the game against Kano Pillars.
For those reasons, Johnson was fined N500,000 for conduct capable of bringing the Nigerian League to disrepute and was also suspended from all Nigerian league match venues until the NFF Ethics Committee would determine his matter. He was given 48 hours, not later than Wednesday, January 18, to accept the sanctions or elect to appeal.
For Yaw Preko, coach of the FC Ifeanyi Ubah, he was also charged for breaching the Code of Conduct for Managers and Coaches in the NPFL Framework and Rules.
The coach was said to have failed/neglected to take reasonable steps to ensure his players and other employees under his control accepted the decisions of the match officials in the match against the Kano Pillars.
In this light, the coach has been reprimanded and has 48 hours, not later than Wednesday, to accept the sanction or elect to appeal.
Folusho Ajayi, referee for the controversial game, was also not spared as the LMC expressed dissatisfaction with her performance.
The LMC asked that the NFF Referees Committee to withdraw her from future league games pending full investigation into her performance.
