FC Robo claim final NWFL Super Six playoffs ticket after huge win
Sports
FC Robo Women of Lagos have qualified for the Super Six playoffs of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, after defeating Confluence Queens of Lokoja 4-0.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they clinched the final ticket for the playoffs from Group B on the final match day of the competition on Wednesday.
Prior to Match Day 14, five teams —– defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens and Edo Queens —— had qualified for the Super Six.
The last ticket was then being contested by FC Robo and Nasarawa Amazons, with the former on 19 points and the latter on 17 points.
A loss to visiting Confluence Queens at the Legacy Pitch at Surulere in Lagos, and a win by Nasarawa Amazons would mean the Lagos-based team would lose the opportunity.
But, goals in the second half by Rukayat Shobowale, Rukayat Oladiti and a brace by Folashade Ijamilusi secured the win for the Lagos team.
In another Match Day 14 game, played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, hosts Delta Queens drew 1-1 with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt.
The result helped the hosts to maintain Group A leadership with 26 points from 12 matches after seven wins and five draws.
Rivers Angels finished third with 20 points from five wins and five draws.
Other matches saw Bayelsa Queens whipping Naija Ratels of Abuja 3-0 in Yenagoa and Heartland Queens beating Royal Queens 1-0.
Also, Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia walloped Adamawa Queens 5-0 in Keffi.
Meanwhile, Osun Babes FC and Ibom Angels have been relegated to the lower tier of the league —— the Championship.
NAN reports that the dates and venue for the playoffs are yet to be officially announced.(NAN)
