FCE will bring economic benefits to Ididep community- Council chairman

MR. Cletus Obun, the Governing Council Chairman, Federal College of Education, Ididep, Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom, says the institution will be of huge economic benefits to the community.Obun who made the statement at a stakeholders meeting in Ididep, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, said the college was a good omen to the community.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government approved the establishment of the college in 2023, alongside other federal academic institutions.

The governing council chairman said that the college was ready to commence full academic activities.

Obun said that about 80 per cent of the first batch of admissions would be given to indigenes of the area, and that low cadre personnel would be drawn from the community.

“So students from the area will no longer need to travel far to attend college of education, this institution will be centre of excellence.

“The institution will bring economic benefits to the community, you will see an influx of people, it will lead to increased economic activities,” he said.

Obun urged the Federal Government and interventionist agencies in the country to support the institution with funding and provision of facilities to ensure effective learning.

He commended Sen. Ita Enang for his efforts in the approval of the college, saying that the institution will contribute to the overall growth and development of the area.

Also speaking, the Provost, Dr Edem Ntuk, said that the stakeholders meeting was to inform the community that the institution would soon begin full academic activities.

“We deemed it necessary to meet with the community before commencing activities on campus. We are stakeholders in this project,” he said.

In his remarks, Enang commended the Federal Government for its support to the institution.

He further said that work would soon commence on the internal roads within the school.

“I urge the governing council to work towards achieving excellence. We cannot settle for anything less,” he said.

The Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang, commended the Federal Government for citing the institution in the area.

Inyang assured the institution of the community’s cooperation towards the growth of the institution.(NAN)
