THE Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Federal Capital Territory Administration, has organised an inter-division football competition to improve staff fitness and work culture.

AMMC Coordinator, Chief Felix Obuah, stated this in Abuja on Monday, at the end of the match between Building Inspectorates and Logistics, which ended 2:2.

Obuah added that the football competition was also organised to promote unity and love among the different departments and divisions in the council.

“The football match is helping to put the staff body and soul together and more importantly; it is helping to strengthen love and unity among the staff.

“The physical fitness will prepare them for the task ahead because their work is very enormous and tedious.

“I am impressed with the love, the affection and how the workers were enjoying themselves today,” he said.

The coordinator, who said that the competition was part of the council’s end-of-year activities, added that the activity would be held every year.

He expressed satisfaction with the delivery of the development control department in the last 11 months.

He particularly commended the director of the department, Mr Mukhtar Galadima, for organising the event and for promoting harmonious relationships among the workers.

On his part, Galadima said that the weeklong competition was part of strategies to keep the minds of the workers away from enforcement and regulations.

He noted that in the course of enforcing development control regulations over the years, the workers were stoned and chased away by angry residents and violators.

“Am overjoyed seeing my staff relaxing, away from enforcement and regulation.

“It is not only about enforcement; there is another side to the coin.

“The teams that played today are Building Inspectorate and Logistics. Tomorrow the match will be between Administrative and Monitoring and Enforcement,” the director said. (NAN)
