Says insecurity in FCT has risen to an all time high, underreported

DALHATU Ezekiel Musa, Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, gas said that there have been 22 attacks on residents of the Federal Capital Territory in the last 3 months alone.

The Commissioner, who made the disclosure at its quarterly press briefing to address the incessant kidnappings and dangerous security breaches across the FCT, noted that it is now safe to say the entire six Area Councils are experiencing incessant kidnapping and killing of the victims.

 Describing the situation as a matter of cogent national and sub-national concern, he noted that what started like a communal clash amongst remote communities and herders, has degenerated into full time business for these miscreants.

“It is embarrassing, alarming and demeaning of our corporate existence that the Federal Capital Territory, which is like the Washington DC in America is under siege by some handful of unknown gunmen.

“These kidnapping activities that have surged in the FCT is threatening peace and businesses across the FCT, most especially in the last 2-3 months. Communities in Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji all in Abuja South were living with fear before Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, joined them in experiencing these heinous crimes,” he said.

The areas, which have been affected with dates and number of victims are:

1. 10/10/2023 Sherepe community and resettlement site, four (4) people were kidnapped,

2. 11/11/23. At Fulani settlement in Shere community under Bwari Area Council, six (6) people kidnapped

3. 3/12/ 23 Pada-gbagyi community district head and four (4) people were kidnapped

4. 7/12/2023, Two (2) people were from Gumaye community were kidnapped.1 person killed and 2 people injured in the process in Kwaku community under Kuje Area Council.

5. 7/12/23 District head of Kawu and family members were also kidnapped

6. 13/12/23 at Gidan Dogo village six (6)people kidnapped

7. 20/12/23, four (4) people were kidnapped in Tokulo Community and six (6) in Igu community

8. 20/12/23, six (6) people were kidnapped from Gaba Community and Zuma community

9. 23/12/23 eight (8) people were kidnapped at kuduru community,

10. 22/12/23 Four (4) people were kidnapped from Bwari,

11. 24/12/23 Another Four (4) people were kidnapped from Tokulo Community

12. 25/12/23 Six (6) people kidnapped from Igu, Panunuke,

13. 27/12/23 Seven (7) people were also kidnapped from Zuma 1 Community,

14. 2/1/24 Six (6) people were kidnapped from Dutse Sagbagyi,

15. On the 10/01/24, Four (4) people were kidnapped from Kawu community

16. 13/01/24, Four (4) people were killed along SCC road Bwari,

17. 12/12/23, At Pegi community in Kuje Six (6) were people kidnapped,

18. 20/12/23, Seven (7) people kidnapped from Tukuba community under Kuje Area Council,

19. On 20/12/2023 Achinbi Community, Eight (8) people were kidnapped

20. 8 / 11/23, Seven (7) people were kidnapped from Kwaku community still under Kuje Area Council,

21. 29/12/2023 Three (3) people from Kanzo community were kidnapped on 13 Jan 2024

22. Just Yesterday at 1pm the 14th January, 2024, Fifteen 15 people were Kidnapped at GATSANA under Agwai of Kuje Area Council on their way coming back from the farm.

22. On 17th November 2023, 7 people were kidnapped in YEWUTI, including the father of the Vice Chairman of Kwali Area Council.

He said that the insecurity situation in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has risen to an all time high that even the city center appears endangered.

The commissioner also used the opportunity to draw the attention of Nyesome Wike, minister of the FCT and other relevant government agencies to the underreported kidnapping activities in the FCT even as he revealed that reliable findings have shown that the miscreants are aware of the security strategies of the armed forces.

He therefore called for a reform of the approach towards tackling these crimes.
