THE Board of Trustees of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) through its Counsel, Prof Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, a letter dated 21st August, 2024, and titled “RE: CONSISTENT CAMPAIGN BY A PRETENDER AND IMPOSTOR TO THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF NIGERIA (ALGON), MR MAIFATA AMINU MUAZU TO UNDERMINE THE JUDGMENT OF THE SUPREME COURT OF NIGERIA ON FINANCIAL AUTONOMY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN NIGERIA”.

The letter addresses the ongoing disruptions being caused by one Mr. Maifata Aminu Muazu, who is illegally and falsely parading himself and claiming to be the President of ALGON despite not having emerged from any valid statutory election in accordance with ALGON’s Constitution.

The letter intimates the SGF of Mr Muazu’s acts which are frustrating the successful implementation of the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment which granted full financial autonomy to Local Governments as prescribed by the 1999 Constitution, thereby undermining the rule of law, obedience to court judgements and threatening public order within ALGONs.

Bellow is the Letter:
