Federation Cup: Star Plus coach targets final match appearance
Sports
STAR Plus Football Club’s coach, Anistar Izuikem, says his team’s target in the ongoing Federation Cup competition in Enugu State is to qualify for the final match.
Izuikem told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu that this target is good enough to enable them represent the state at the national level of the competition.
“My target is for us to reach the final a second time and represent the state at the national level once again.
“I need to showcase my players at a bigger stage, give them more exposure to the bigger clubs and other football scouts,” he said.
The coach said this was why his team would take their matches one at a time.
Describing their next opponents, Ingas FC, as a strong and consistent team in the Nationwide League One (NLO), he said “but we have a good record against them in previous FA Cup games.
“So, we are fired up to do it again,” Izuikem said.
NAN reports that Star Plus FC defeated other state league clubs in the first stage of the competition, and will now face Ingas FC on March 1.
Before this match, the club defeated Golden FC 3-1 before recording another 3-1 victory over Young Lions FC.
The team also recorded a 2-1 win against Disdevt in Afrik.
According to the fixtures, winners of the tie between Star Plus and Ingas FC will face Giant Brillars FC on March 2 in the semi-finals.
The final match of the competition will hold on March 8.
