THE residents of Feru village, Ado-Odo, Ota, Ogun state, on Saturday called on government at all levels to help avert the looming crisis in the area caused by undue encroachment on community access road.
The residents made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Their appeal to the government was due to the hardship experienced by the residents as a result of the damage done to the access road to the villa by land grabbers.
NAN reports that the Feru – Oguntedo access road which was constructed by Gbenga Ibuoye Nigeria Limited was on Jan. 20, damaged with an excavator by suspected land grabbers.
Alhaji Gbenga Ibuoye, CEO, Gbenga Ibuoye Nigeria Limited, said that the road built to give access to the community was not only damaged but also barricaded with concrete blocks.
Ibuoye said that the residents had gathered at the damaged road to dialogue and find out the reason behind the damage as well as to avert the looming crisis.
According to him, the residents are becoming restless due to the untold hardship they have been subjected to as a result of the damage to the access road.
He said that the Feru residents had demanded an explanation from the land grabbers on the reason behind erecting concrete blocks on land that did not belong to them.
A community head, Mr Daniel Oladinjo, said that the happenings in the land was a surprise to the people.
Oladinjo said that the community had kept calm because the government had cautioned people to avoid trouble.
He, however, called on the government to act fast to prevent any kind of unrest.
According to him, the unrest in the country is already one too many and should not visit the community.
He said that the community was not ready for a repeat of such incident on this land which belongs to the Odunfa compound comprising of three families: Odunfa, Falola and Onigbehin.
‘’The activities of the land grabbers on the Feru land is illegal and it should be put to an end by the government, we plead.”
A landlord, Mr Bolaji Muyideen, said that the access road which is under the powerline that was constructed by an individual to benefit the community should not be claimed or blocked by anyone.
Muyideen said that the community was using a makeshift foot bridge across the lagoon which was very dangerous and had claimed two lives.
He said that the damaged road by a faceless person had disrupted the economic and social lives of the community and live was becoming unbearable because water was not brought into the community, likewise food.
According to him, children are stranded and can no longer go to school because there is no access road.
“We have been searching for answers but no one to provide us with one,” he said.
Muyideen, however, pleaded that the government should come to their aid without delay.(NAN)
