THE Federal Ministry of Education (FME) on Tuesday started the last lap monitoring of construction and renovation of temporary learning spaces, under the Global Partnership Education (GPE) accelerated funding project in Adamawa.
Malam Adama Adamu, the Minister of Education, made this kpstated this at the commencement of the exercise on Tuesday in Yola.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the GPE is a multi-stakeholder partnership and funding platform that is aimed at strengthening education systems in developing countries to increase the number of children who are in school and learning.
The minister, who was represented by Dr Lydia Giginna, the Director, Support Services said the essence of the exercise was to ensure that the grant was effectively utilised in line with the expectations through creating conducive, safe and healthy learning environment for learners.
“We are here today to commence the last lap of the monitoring exercise of the construction and renovation of temporary learning spaces to ensure that the grant has been effectively utilised.
“Education is an essential tool in nation building and government requires the support of partners and private sector to achieve this.
“The management of the federal ministry of education greatly appreciates the support received from UNICEF and other relevant agencies, towards achieving the desired goals,” the minister said.
He urged all stakeholders to join hands with government to see that the grant provided for the venture was judiciously used for efficient delivery of education in the BAY states.
Dr Salihi Ateequ, the Executive Chairman Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), commended the effort of the Federal Government for education development in the country.
He assured the team of all necessary support for their successful assignment in the state.
Mr Joel Jutum, the UNICEF Education consultant in Adamawa, explained that the projects were executed in six local government areas of the state.
Jutum said the local government areas are include Fufure, Guyuk, Mubi-South, Mubi-North, Michika and Hong. (NAN)
