THE Federal Government is currently prosecuting 18 Chinese for illegal mining in the country. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents of the outcome of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Fayemi said 36 Nigerians have also been arrested for the same offence. The minister said the illegal mining was pronounced on gold and sapphire.
“About 36 were arrested and we have the mines’ police there, they are being prosecuted, I believe the police are handling that. Eighteen of the Chinese are being prosecuted,” he said. – Punch
