MR Henry Ikoh, Minister of State for STI said the Federal Government would reward scientists and researchers on successful commercialisation of research and innovation efforts.

This is contained in a statement issued by Josephine Ademu, Chief Information Officer of the Ministry on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ikoh said this during the North-East zonal dialogue in the STI ecosystem on the establishment of technology and innovation centres in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Ademu quoted Ikoh as saying that the Federal Government’s gesture was to create conducive environment to attract women and children in the research and innovation space.

The minister said this was in line with Presidential Executive Order No.5, 2022 STI policy and the Abuja declarations of FARI, where researchers, inventors and innovators would be protected with the appropriate legal frameworks.

“We shall work tirelessly to remove all obstacles, close all gaps so as to encourage cooperation and collaboration among research and development institutions and the Organised Private Sector.

“This would ensure that there is cordial relationship among critical stakeholders within the STI ecosystem in the country,” Ikoh said.

The minister said that this would reduce cost of production, guarantee stability in the supply chain and stabilise forex crises.

It would also provide a solid foundation for irreversible industrialisation that was inclusive and sustainable for national development.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, represented by his deputy, Baba Tela, said the Executive Order 5, when fully implemented woukd greatly reduce the crave for imported goods.

Mohammed said that the implementation of the Order would ensure 100 million direct and indirect jobs in the country and boost indigenous technological development.

The National Coordinator, Strategy Implementation Task Office for Presidential Executive Order 5, Mr Ibiam Oguejiofor, said changing the narratives of Nigerian economy from consumption to production based was a task that must be achieved collectively.(NAN)
