AS Nigeria celebrates her 64th Independence Anniversary, a leading media rights group in the country, ‘Media Rights Promoters’ has passed a vote of confidence on the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Olatunji Bello, for his unrelenting fight against the exploitation of the Nigerian consumers.

In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu to celebrate this year’s independence anniversary by the national secretary of the group, Edwin Innocent, the group said: Within the shortest time of being in office, the FCCPC under his leadership has been able to rekindle the hope of the ordinary Nigerian in our local markets. Bello has encouraged healthy competition in the Nigerian market, thereby creating room for innovation among market leaders and stakeholders alike.”

In addition, the era of outrageous fixing of commodity prices at the expense of the Nigerian consumers are over.

Citing the recent cases of the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited and the Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited where the companies were alleged to have digressed from the use of regular sugar to the use of non nutritive sweeteners in the production of some of its soft drinks as another bold action taken by FCCPC in the interest of the Nigerian consumers.

The same thing is applicable in the alleged violation of antitrust laws and data protection by Meta Platforms INC and WhatsApp which the FCCPC is currently investigating.

It added that Bello has been running the affairs of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in accordance with the FCCP Act of 2018 without equivocation.

“Therefore, our vote of confidence on him is a call to do more for Nigerians as the consumers cannot be at the mercy hands of the exploitative marketers again,” the statement said.
