Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State visits the Independent National Electoral Commission office gutted by fire and warns that criminals would have no place to operate in the state

THE offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC at Mgboko, headquarters of Obingwa Local Council, Abia State, was set ablaze around 11am today, Monday August 3, by yet to be identified arsonists.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who visited the scene of the incident, condemned the perpetrators, describing them as enemies of the state.

In a press release signed by Godwin Adindu, his chief press secretary, Governor Ikpeazu also expressed shock at the level of damage done to the building and charged the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.

Consequently, the governor called on the Police and the Army to beef up security in all the INEC formations in the state to forestall such incidents.

He lamented over the tendency of some disgruntled elements in society to vandalize public property, saying that it was a big drawback to the effort of government in providing dividends of democracy.

While reiterated the determination of his government to maintain law and order and protect life and property of the Abia citizenry, Ikpeazu used the occasion to warn perpetrators of such acts to turn to a new leaf as the current administration would not tolerate such deviate acts.
