THE First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has said that acquiring quality education was crucial to building a better and peaceful future for Nigeria.

The first lady said this in Abuja on Wednesday at a ceremony to mark the 2024 World International Day of Education (WIDE).

This year’s celebration has the theme “Learning for lasting peace”.

“This year’s theme is apt for a time like this. I am convinced that building a more peaceful future rests on our readiness to pursue quality education.

“As an educationist, I recognise education’s crucial role in achieving gender equity. Education is the bedrock of a truly peaceful society.

“Education transforms hearts and minds. It requires equipping our children with knowledge, values and skills that foster not only academic excellence, but also empathy, tolerance and respect for our diversity.

“On this International Day for Education, let us embrace transformative learning and invest more in inclusivity that instills in our children the values of peace and tolerance.

“This is necessary to build a Nigeria of peace, progress and prosperity for us all.”
