FITCH Group has clarified the controversial reports on the rating from a poll attributed to Fitch Country Risk and Industry Research with the title: “A Tinubu Presidency Would Increase Social Instability In Nigeria”.

Amidst controversial media reports, Realnews contacted Fitch Solution and gathered that the report was from a separate part of the Fitch Group.

Clarifying the controversy, Athos Larkou, Director, Corporate Communication of Fitch Group told Realnews in an email “Just to clarify, this is from Fitch Solutions, a separate part of the Fitch Group from the ratings business and they do not share data or information with each other.”

Recall that on October 26, Fitch Solutions published a contentious report, which went viral and rating the three major political gladiators in Nigeria and placing Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress ahead of the other contestants, but predicted that there would be social instability should Tinubu win the February 2023 polls.

The report reads:

“At Fitch Solutions, we believe that recent polls are significantly overstating support for Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate running in Nigeria’s February 2023 presidential election.

“Indeed, we maintain our view that the ruling party’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the candidate most likely to win the presidential election as a split opposition vote will favour the All Progressives Congress.

“Protests and social discontent are likely to ramp up in the aftermath of a Tinubu win since this would end the recent trend of the presidency alternating between Muslims and Christians.”
