Flood: Ganduje orders demolition of structures built on drainage in Kano market

GOV. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Wednesday ordered the immediate demolishing of all structures built on the Kwarin-Gogau stream in the metropolitan area.

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, made this known while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting in Kano.

Garba also said the government has marked for demolishing, all structures on drainage lines within and surrounding Kantin-Kwari Market.

“The council directed that all temporary structures mounted on the drainage system within and around the market should be removed with immediate effect,” he said.

He said that measure would assist in removing all obstacles that hinder smooth flow of both storm and waste water in the area.

The measure, he said, was sequel to the Report of Rapid Assessment of Flooding in the state submitted to the council by the Commissioners of works and environment, Alhaji Idris Wada and Dr Kabiru Getso, respectively.

The council, he said, also directed for desilting and evacuation of all blocked drainages within Kantin-Kwari market and its surroundings. (NAN)
