Floods: Adamawa Assembly passes resolution for LGs to repair rural roads

THE Adamawa House of Assembly  on Thursday passed a motion urging the 21 Local Government Areas of the state to begin repaires of all rural roads recently  damaged by flood.s

The resolution was adopted by the assembly during  plenary session in Yola under motion of urgent public importance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that the motion was sponsored by Mr Raymond Mamuno,  (PDP), Demsa constituency and seconded by Abubakar Isah, PDP, Shellang constituency.

Mamuno said the rural roads have become a nightmare considering the nature of delapidation caused by the floods.

“We are specifically  calling on the council chairmen of Girei and Demsa Local Government Areas to embark on the immedeate  repairs of  the damaged Hayin gada/Borrong road.

”We call on state ministry of Rural Infrastructure and Community Development to ensure  that the rural roads repaired under the Rural Access Mobility projects (RAMP II) are regularly maintained.

“The assembly committee on rural infrastructure to liase with the ministry towardsthism” he said.

Repaires and maintenance of the roads, he said, would facilitate easy transportation within the communities as well as provide  convenience to the residents  of the communities”

Speaker of the assembly, Malam Aminu Iya-Abbas, said the house would soon communicate  all the resolutions passed to the relevant athourities for prompt action.

NAN also reports that hundreds of  kilometers of rural roads in the state had been  badly affected by flood during the last rainy season making movement  within the affected communities difficult.
