FOC appreciates Nigerian Army in upholding fight against insurgency

THE Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Yakubu Wambai, has appreciated the Nigerian Army (NA) in its fight against insurgency and other forms of criminalities across the country.
Wambai, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Nigerian Army Signals West African Social Activities (WASA), 2022, made this appreciation on Saturday at the Signals Operations Command Parade Ground, Signals Barracks, Mile 2.
Wambai was represented by the Fleet Commander, Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Samson Bura.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WASA is an annual occasion held by the Army to mark the end of the year’s training activities and to usher in activities for the new year.
It is designed to enable officers, soldiers, their families and civilian friends, particularly the host community, to interact and make merry in a conducive atmosphere.

It also promotes comradeships, deepens espirit de corps and strengthens unity among personnel while displaying various cultural groups reflecting the cultural diversity across the country.
The FOC also thanked the Army Signals Corps in the vital role the corps played in the exercise of command and control by providing effective and secure communications support for NA Operations.
“It is heart-warming that the Corps of Signals has impressively sustained the age-long military tradition of holding the WASA after successful activities of the year.
“I was pleased to see the unique displays of various cultural troupes. There are very few places in the country where people from diverse backgrounds co-habit as we see in the barracks,” he said.
Wambai urged personnel of the Nigerian Army Signals to continue to excel in the execution of their roles and duties to the country.
Also, the Commander, Corps of Signals, Maj.-Gen. Garba Abdullahi, said that the Nigerian Army Signals Training Cycle 2022 was designed to train requisite manpower capable of providing the needed Corps of Signals inputs.
Abdullahi said that the training cycle was geared towards the attainment of the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya’s vision which is: “to have a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria”.
“The training is to continue to enhance the corps potentials in providing reliable, effective and secure communications support to NA operational, administrative and logistic activities.
“All scheduled training activities were successfully conducted; culminating in the command post and field exercises that has increased troops confidence in operating their weapons and equipment.
“The Nigerian Army Signals Training Cycle for the Year 2022 was carefully planned to ensure that personnel continue to enhance their capacity to meticulously carry out the Corps mandate,” he said.
The commander said that the corps within the outgone year, ensured significant improvement in uplifting facilities in the offices and residential areas for their officers and soldiers.
“These intervention projects ameliorated the acute accommodation challenge faced by Nigerian Army Signals personnel in Lagos and greatly enhanced their morale,” he said.
He said that the climax of the social events was the burning of the campfire by the Special Guest of Honour which everyone found exhilarating.
NAN reports that nine soldiers were recognised and given certificates for outstandingly performance while 21 widows were given cash price and bags of rice. (NAN)
