
Football coordinator urges more support for promise grassroots football

ABIA State Football Association (FA) Grassroots Football Coordinator in Aba South Local Government Area, Godwin Uduma, has promised football enthusiast of grassroots football development in Aba.
Uduma made the promise during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Saturday saying that football talents abound Aba.
He said with more support from the public and private sectors, grassroots football coaches would raise more super stars for the country.
The coach said: “With the support of Aba South Local Government chairman and spirited individual who love football, I am sure that grassroots football will be taken to higher height.
Uduma, the owner of United Stars Academy, Aba called on individuals who loved football to assist the grassroots football coaches by organising or sponsoring football competitions.
“Football is one of the major sports that units and brings people together and it needs to be taken more seriously,” he said.
He described grassroots football as the bedrock of every age grade football competition, adding that the country should ensure its growth to protect the future.
“We the coaches in Aba are doing our best to discover and harness players but sponsorship remains our problem.
“It is always a thing of joy for me to see a grassroots players making it to the senior national team and plying his trade outside the country,” the coach said.
The coordinator said he would do everything in his power to ensure that talents were discovered and harnessed in Aba South LGA.
Uduma, while speaking on state governments-run clubs in Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) hailed Enyimba and Abia Warriors performance at the ongoing Nigeria League.
“As a coach and football lover, I always wish that Abia takes first position in the game of football at the National League One, Nationwide League and NPFL.
“I will be pleased if, Enyimba can surmount all the hurdles in the CAF Confederation cup to become the champions.
“Also I will be glad if Abia Warriors can make it to the continental level next season season,” Uduma said,” the coordinator said. (NAN)
